- Miss South Africa 2021 The top 30 have been determined, and one of them is Lehlogonolo Machaba (24).
- The first transsexual woman to openly enter the Miss SA competition.
Hailing from Oskraal, Letlhabile in the northwest, Machaba is the city of Invade Models and the founder and partner of the fashion brand DeMollies. She graduated from Tshwane Technical University with a degree in fashion design technology.
When she tells why she decided to take part in the Miss SA competition, Machaba said, “Transgender women are almost always displaced by such opportunities, which is why I never thought I would see someone like me on such a platform. I believe that choice will give hope to many little girls like me. I’ve always dreamed of representing my community at such a high level. “
Machaba added that if she wins the title, she will raise awareness of the LGBTQIA+ community, given the daily killing of queers and the devastating trans-identification of people in our country….. Through Miss South Platform Africa, I can advocate for the LGBTQIA+ community and especially for identifying women queer.
I will take this opportunity to empower everyone who is marginalized and be a beacon of hope for young girls, no matter what they think is preventing them from achieving their goals. With patience, perseverance, and hard work, they can achieve anything they set their mind to,” he said.
He said that entering the competition was not easy and expected both negative and positive comments. She said, “When I stepped into #MissSA2021, I knew I would be greeted with compliments as well as transphobia. It’s time for us to brighten plus show ourselves; let’s silence them by being positive and pushing boundaries. “
