- Famous shoe brand Blowfish Malibu has teamed up with Oceana to create its 4Earth collection.
- Committing one step towards a more sustainable future.
Oceana is an international advocacy group dedicated exclusively to the protection of the ocean. The 4Earth collection is made from recycled plastic bottles and is an effort to reduce waste in the fashion industry.
“We understand that about 300 million pairs of shoes end up in landfills every year, and we know that we are part of this problem. In the future, we are committed to doing our part to reduce our footprint on the environment,” said a statement from the shoe brand.
The new collection is available in three different designs, Play4Earth Sneaker, Balla4Earth Wedge Sandal, and Marley4Earth Sneaker. For the group, plastic bottles are collected first and all caps are removed before bottles are sorted by color. Next, they clean and sterilize the bottles. The bottles are dried and crushed into flakes.
From the graphics, materials, sole, and midsole, color-blocking and sizing, everything has to be perfect. The flakes are melted and pressed into small grains before threading.
Finally, people weave the fibers into rolls of fabric before sewing the fabric to make the shoes’ uppers. In the expectation, we are dedicated to doing our part to lessen our footprint on the environment,” said a statement from the shoe brand.
A portion of the profits of the sale of the 4Earth pair will be donated. The Malibu blowfish is known for its sustainable collection.
