HI-TEC Accounts Nelson Mandela Besides Limited-Edition Sneakers Obtained The Bid For The Shoes.

Key Sentence:

  • Sportswear brand HI-TEC honors the late Nelson Mandela on Mandela day with released new sneakers.
  • Nelson Mandela Day is celebrated every year on July 18 to celebrate his birthday.

Every year, people spend 67 minutes of their time doing charity work to help those in need. Freedom 67 is adapted from HI-TEC Wimbledon, the sneakers the late former South African President wore in 1990. The sneakers were one gift from his ex-wife, Winnie Madikizela-Mandela. And when the sneakers were auctioned off in 1996, Frank van Wesel, founder of HI-TEC, won the bid for the shoes.

Now the brand is paying back the sneaker in a modified form with the new name Freedom 67. Sneaker Freaker announced that HI-TEC product designer Gordon Stokes revealed that developing the new Freedom 67 was not easy. Because of its importance, the HI-TEC team handled the project with the utmost care and dignity.

“The test was not just to recreate the sneakers, but to create an object that pays homage to an extraordinary person – a man who has dedicated his life to freedom for all. “Mandela not only fought against apartheid, but also for a better world where freedom, justice, and dignity are respected for all.

“The shoe was meant to be more than just a pair of sneakers, but it had to tell a story, from an authentic message to a meaningful symbol,” said Stokes. He added that they used images and 3D models of Mandela Wimbledon to create Freedom 67. From the graphics, materials, sole, and midsole, color-blocking and sizing, everything has to be perfect.

“In terms of packaging too, we had to handle the same attention to detail as we did with sneakers to convey a consistent message across the project. Mandela’s legacy must be respected as part of this development, no matter how much he admires what he stands for,” said Stokes. The new Freedom 67 is limited to only 67 pairs. The pair number 67/67 will be auctioned here on Mandela Day.
