Lesego Tlhabi, Also Known As Kelz Kelapa, Pours Tea In The Lead Role In “Bettina Wethu.”

Key Sentence:

  • Screenwriter and comedian Lessego Thabi may be best known for his beloved alter ego, Cocos Kielce.
  • Still, he also made a name for himself on our TV screens as the lead actor on the popular SABC show “Bettina Wethu.”

The show follows the main character Betty Sikhakane (Farieda Metileng), who focuses on her first work in the City of Gold. It is based on the successful international format “Yo Soy Betty La Fea” – best known to local audiences as “The Ugly” Betty. “

In addition to a humorous and engaging storyline, the show features a talented local cast, including Zweli Dube (Dingaan Jiyane) and Tsholofelo Mashishi (Linda Jiyane).

“Bettina Wethu” launched on SABC1 in April and appeared regularly on the channel’s top 10 most-watched shows, attracting over 2.5 million viewers for each of its three weekly episodes. GLAMOR South Africa met with Lesego to talk about his life and his big break from acting.

It’s great to finally have that “big break” moment because it took a long time and a lot of work behind the scenes to get to that moment.

What inspired you to enter the world of acting?

I honestly can’t say. I wanted to play and perform as a child, and I used my family to sit and watch me perform various plays or choreographed dances. I’m sure my first words were, “Shut up on set!”

What is the hardest part of being an actress?

The clock is high-speed. People don’t realize that sometimes we have a schedule of 12 hours a day, six days a week. And it can also be hard to get out there because people have so many unwanted opinions and feel they have to share them for some reason.

Tell us more about your role in “Bettina Wethu”?

I played Zaza Moloi, the queen of social media at Nubia, the brand agency where most of the characters work. She is primarily self-confident, but like everyone else, she has insecurities, especially when it comes to body image and harassment. We work together, Zaza and I (haha).

She’s a brightly colored character, and she doesn’t play down the color purple – you can even tell by her style choices and the fact that she’s not afraid to talk about herself, including her boss.
